Tribunals
According to the Tribunals Service (see below), "Tribunals are an important part of the justice system, handling more cases each year than the ordinary civil courts, many involving the most vulnerable people in our society."
While this is undoubtedly true, some have concerns that certain tribunals lack the requisite training and expertise to deliver justice to those who make use of them (cf. for example the Special Report on Education Appeal Committees by the now defunct Council on Tribunals). As the pressures on court time remain unabated, it seems likely that the proliferation of Tribunals will continue apace.

- Tribunals Service: a government agency that provides common administrative support to the main central government tribunals.
Administrative Justice & Tribunals Council: keeps under review the administrative
justice system as a whole with a view to making it accessible, fair and efficient.
Scottish Tribunals
Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland hear references about
children or young people with additional support needs, specifically concerning issues surrounding Co-ordinated Support
Plans and some placing request appeals.
- Children's Hearings take decisions about children and young people under 16, and in some cases under 18, who commit offences or who are in need of care and protection.
- Lands Tribunal for Scotland: deals with various types of dispute involving land or property, including "right to buy" cases.
Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland was set up to take decisions about the compulsory care and
treatment of people with a mental disorder.
- National Appeal Panel for Entry to the Pharmaceutical List "considers appeals against decisions taken by Pharmacy Practices Committees (PPCs) in relation to applications for entry to the Pharmaceutical List."
- Parole Board for Scotland
- Pensions Appeal Tribunals Scotland hear appeals from ex-servicemen or women who have had their claims for a War Pension rejected by the Secretary of State for Defence.
Private Rented Housing Panel tries to resolve disputes between tenants and
landlords and provides tenants with a way to force landlords to do necessary repairs.
Scottish Charity Appeals Panel deals with appeals against decisions made by
the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).
- Traffic Commissioner for Scotland is responsible for, inter alia, dealing with both appeals against decisions by Scottish local authorities on taxi fares, and appeals against charging and removing improperly parked vehicles in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
- Valuation Appeal Committee hears appeals against the valuation of non domestic properties for rates purposes.
Asylum and Immigration Tribunals
- Asylum and Immigration Tribunal hears appeals against decisions made by the Home Secretary and his officials in asylum, immigration and nationality matters.
- Asylum Support Tribunal was set up to consider appeals from decisions made by the Border and Immigration Agency.
- Immigration Services Tribunal hears appeals against decisions made by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner and considers disciplinary charges brought against immigration advisors by the Commissioner.
- Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission deals with appeals in cases where the Secretary of State for the Home Department refuses to de-proscribe organisations believed to be involved in terrorism.
- Special Immigration Appeals Commission deals with appeals against decisions made by the Home Office to deport, or exclude, someone from the UK on national security grounds.

- Consumer Credit Appeals Tribunal hears appeals arising from licensing decisions of the OFT including decisions to suspend or revoke a consumer credit licence.

- Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Panel handles appeals relating to decisions made by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.

- Information Tribunal (formerly known as the Data Protection Tribunal) hears appeals from notices issued by the UK Information Commissioner. Incorporates the National Security Appeals Panel.
